Richard Margulis has retired from his role as president and CEO of Patchogue, N.Y.-based Long Island Community Hospital after 41 years with the organization, Newsday reported July 4. 

Richmond, Va.-based VCU Health has appointed John Petrov chief human resources officer, effective Aug. 20. 

McLaren Macomb, part of Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care, has named Steve Snyder CFO, effective June 19. 

Merit Health Natchez (Miss.) has named Kevin Samrow its next CEO, effective July 31, according to The Natchez Democrat. 

Rochelle (Ill.) Community Hospital has tapped Karen Tracy, RN, as its next CEO, effective July 1. 

Perry Gay is the new CEO of Lutheran Downtown Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind., according to local news station WANE. 

Following is a list of 72 CFO moves at hospitals and health systems this year, broken down by state. 

CEOs are leaving hospitals and health systems in record numbers. In January, their exits hit a four-year high; by May, departures were up 70 percent from the same time period of 2022.  

Eighty hospital CEOs exited in the first five months of 2023, according to a June report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas. And that number continues to climb — Becker's reported 10 retirements, resignations and firings this month. 

Michelle Lee, CFO of Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System, has stepped down from the position. 

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center promoted Andrew Storer, PhD, DNP, RN, to chief nursing officer, senior vice president of patient care services and associate professor of oncology.

Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health has promoted Nancy Bussani to executive vice president and chief philanthropy officer, as well as president of the CommonSpirit Health Foundation.

Shelbourn Stevens is no longer with Novant Health, the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based health system confirmed to Becker's.

Chad Whelan, MD, will soon become president and chief operating officer of Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, the first person to hold the dual role in the hospital's history. 

Jill Berry Bowen, MSN, RN, has been named interim president of North Conway, N.H.-based Memorial Hospital, a member of MaineHealth. 

Erica Shenoy, MD, PhD, has been named Mass General Brighams's inaugural chief of infection control, the Somerville, Mass.-based system said June 28. She was also recently appointed to a federal committee to advise on the nation's infection control strategy.
