Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health signed a letter of intent to buy a Missouri hospital from St. Louis-based SSM Health. If the transaction is finalized, it would be the for-profit operator's first hospital in Missouri.

As part of a financial turnaround plan, Tower Health will consider selling all six of its Philadelphia-area hospitals, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. 

Punxsutawney (Pa.) Area Hospital and Indiana (Pa.) Regional Medical Center have signed a definitive agreement to merge under one parent organization. 

Laconia, N.H.-based LRGHealthcare will auction off its assets, including its two hospitals, on Dec. 16, according to The Laconia Daily Sun. 

Two hospitals in Illinois received approval from the state to combine and consolidate operations, according to The Times. 

Three Rivers (Mich.) Health, a single-hospital system, signed a letter of intent to join Beacon Health System in South Bend, Ind.

Tyrone (Pa.) Hospital has joined DuBois, Pa.-based Penn Highlands Healthcare, the organizations announced Nov. 4. 

A measure to sell Petaluma (Calif.) Valley Hospital to an affiliate of Renton, Wash.-based Providence St. Joseph Health has been approved, according to local newspaper Petaluma360.

Yavapai Regional Medical Center, a two-hospital system based in Prescott, Ariz., has joined Dignity Health's Arizona division. 

Cleveland-based University Hospitals will become a minority partner of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio-based Western Reserve Hospital under an agreement announced Nov. 4. 

Five transactions involving hospitals and health systems were announced, finalized or advanced since Oct. 23:

Geisinger no longer serves as the parent organization of AtlantiCare, the two health systems announced Nov. 2.  

The board of Virginia Mason Memorial, a 256-bed hospital in Yakima, Wash., voted to end its affiliation with Virginia Mason Health System ahead of a potential merger, according to the Yakima Herald-Republic.

Geisinger will complete the sale of Holy Spirit Health System in Camp Hill, Pa., to Penn State Health Nov. 1, according to PennLive.

Westchester General Hospital, a physician-owned hospital in Miami, was acquired by healthcare management firm Keralty Health Enterprise, the company announced Oct. 29. 

Even before the pandemic, an increasing number of patients were seeking care outside of the four walls of a hospital. Now, the pandemic is accelerating the shift and will likely cause hospitals to rethink their acquisition targets and development plans, according to Moody's Investors Service's Healthcare Quarterly report released Oct. 28. 

Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Healthcare and Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health are pursuing a merger that would create a 70-hospital system. 

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed the sale of two hospitals in Texas Oct. 27. 

Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, Tenn., is not renewing its pediatric care contract with Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center next year, according to The Tennessean.
