Several hospitals and health systems are pursuing merger and acquisition deals, and a few transactions have been called off in recent months. 

Gautier, Miss.-based Singing River Health System's administration is asking Jackson County leaders to sell the hospital, which has been owned by the county for almost a century, due to financial troubles, the Sun Herald reported Aug. 18. 

Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Mass., has signed a letter of intent with Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Chan Medical School to collaborate on a regional medical campus.

ChristianaCare signed a letter of intent in February to acquire Crozer Health from Prospect Medical Holdings. The health systems announced Aug. 18 that the deal will not move forward.

Three nonprofit hospitals have partnered to purchase Philadelphia-based Chestnut Hill Hospital, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Aug. 8. 

Mercy Iowa City was offered $605 million by University of Iowa Health Care last year for ownership of the hospital, The Gazette reported Aug. 5. 

Prospect Medical Holdings is less interested in selling Springfield, Pa.-based Crozer Health, according to an Aug. 4 report from The Philadelphia Inquirer. 

Davis Health System began a clinical affiliation with WVU Medicine in 2019. The health systems are ending the partnership Aug. 8, according to The Inter-Mountain. 

Meridian, Miss.-based Rush Health Systems, a seven-hospital system, has merged with New Orleans-based Ochsner Health as of Aug. 1. 

Mercy Iowa City (Iowa) announced it has abandoned plans to exit its four-year affiliation with the statewide MercyOne health network to integrate into a more extensive healthcare system. According to a July 28 report from The Gazette, the only community hospital in Iowa City was unsuccessful in its search for a replacement partner and will remain with MercyOne.

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems has sold AllianceHealth Seminole (Okla.) to SSM Health Oklahoma, according to a July 28 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. 

The Princeton (W.Va.) Community Hospital Association approved an agreement with the West Virginia University Health System to fully integrate into the WVU Health System, according to a July 28 announcement from the city of Princeton board of directors.

Miami-based Palm Medical Centers has reached an agreement with Saurinkumar Shah, MD, to purchase the assets of Trinity Family Health Care Center, which he owns and operates in Port Richey.
