Biotech company acquires AI-based IVF tech from Brigham and Women's, Massachusetts General Hospital

Biotech company Fujifilm Irvine Scientific acquired Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital's AI-based technology used to improve the success rate of in-vitro fertilization.

The technology, developed and patented jointly by investigators from Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, both based in Boston, uses AI for image-based evaluation of human embryos in order to improve in-vitro fertilization success rates, according to a June 22 press release.

Fujifilm Irvine Scientific plans to bring the technology to other U.S. fertility clinics.

"With assistance from our AI system, embryologists will have a valuable tool to use in their effort to identify and select embryos with the highest chance of resulting in pregnancy," said Charles Bormann, PhD, IVF laboratory director of Massachusetts General Hospital.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
