Michael Zimmerman will assume the hospital’s top job on Dec. 21, according to a news release shared with Becker’s Dec. 19. During his interview, he committed to staying at least one year beyond the construction of a new hospital. To comply with a state requirement for seismic upgrades, new hospitals must be complete by 2030, the release said.

Mr. Zimmerman joins the hospital from the Phoenix area, where he most recently served as a hospital CEO on an interim contract basis, according to his LinkedIn profile. His previous experience includes the CEO title at Sierra Vista Hospital and Rural Health Clinic in Truth or Consequences, N.M., and the system COO role at Nix Health in San Antonio, Texas.

John C. Fremont has been without a permanent CEO since Matt Matthiessen went on medical leave in January. Since then, at least three interim CEOs cycled through the C-suite, including the hospital’s COO, emergency and disaster preparedness coordinator and chief nursing officer.
