North Texas Medical Center CEO placed on administrative leave

The North Texas Medical Center board of directors unanimously voted to place CEO Randy Bacus on administrative leave with pay and benefits through the remainder of his contract, according to the Gainesville Daily Register. His contract terminates at the end of 2016.

Mr. Bacus was hired in January 2011 after serving as interim CEO for several months. His hiring followed a nationwide screening of more than 80 applicants and 10 finalists, according to NTMC.

NTMC officials did not disclose any further information on why Mr. Bacus was placed on leave. According to previous articles from the Register, the hospital has faced significant financial challenges in the past as a result of increasing operating costs and ongoing cuts in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement.

The board appointed Ramin Roufeh, MD, as the temporary interim CEO until an interim CEO is hired. Board director Andrew Anderson will act as Dr. Roufeh's consultant to oversee hospital operations.
