CFO Bob Hemker: Growing Palomar Health to Meet San Diego County's Demand

Commanding a dominant 55 percent market share in northern San Diego County, Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Health and its CFO Bob Hemker provide the only inpatient services in the district.

Robert Hemker is CFO of Palomar Pomerado.With such a large patient base, which includes some Kaiser Permanente health plan members, Palomar embarked on a major construction project to build a new 11-story, $956 million medical center in downtown Escondido, completed late last summer.

Palomar's patient revenue is comprised of 19 percent Medicaid and 45 percent Medicare. The public health system, formerly known as Palomar Pomerado Health, receives approximately $13 million in tax revenues annually, helping it to earn an "A1" rating from Moody's Investors Service on $492 million of rated general obligation bonds.

Mr. Hemke has a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master's degree in healthcare administration.
