CFO Steve Filton: Leading in For-Profit Hospital Stocks at Universal Health Services

Steve Filton joined the staff at for-profit hospital chain Universal Health Services, based in King of Prussia, Pa., in 1985 as director of corporate accounting, moving up to vice president, controller and secretary before assuming his current role as the system's senior vice president and CFO in 2003.

Steve Filton is CFO of Universal Health Services.Last month, the 23-acute-hospital company reported its fourth-quarter profits were $135.5 million, up 42 percent year-over-year, with much of the success attributable to federal incentives for electronic health record. Its fiscal year 2012 profit was up 11.4 percent to $443.4 million. In March, UHS' stock cleared the $60 per share mark, the highest of any for-profit hospital stock. 

Mr. Filton, a CPA, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
