Texas storage facility faced with $56K bill for cleaning up bloody medical waste

The owner of a storage facility may be forced to pay as much as $56,000 to clean up medical waste left by a former customer, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Four things to know:

1. The owner of Dependable Mini-Storage in Irving, Texas, told CBS affiliate KTVT-TV he discovered the medical waste in one of his storage units after a customer stopped renting the unit in September 2018. He said he found hundreds of syringes, red bags labeled "hazard" and blood-splattered boxes, according to the report.

2. The owner said he's tried to get in touch with state and federal officials about the situation, but was told he could be held responsible for the medical waste found inside the unit.

3. He said one estimate he was given for the cost of cleaning the unit was $56,000.

4. Other units rented by the same customer contained similar medical waste, the report states.
