Supply chain tip of the day: Give time back to clinicians

Time is the best currency available to clinicians, according to Ruben Taborda, senior director of supply chain customer solutions at Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems.

"Being able to give time back to clinicians to spend with patients, instead of searching for products, is invaluable," he said.

Mr. Taborda shared the following tip with Becker's Hospital Review.

"Supply chain managers should work with their suppliers to increase the amount of time clinicians spend with patients, rather than simply trying to improve processes. A mark of a good supplier is one that connects the dots within the health system and facilitates the dialogue between the supply chain manager and clinical administrator. Supply chain managers can actually help clinicians understand what they don't know about their own system to increase transactional efficiency and inventory management.

"It is key to find value across three functions: supply chain managers, clinical leaders and physicians. A solution that addresses the pain points of those three groups is truly valuable. Particularly if it gives time back to your stakeholder — time that can be used to serve patients in a more efficient and effective way; time that can help support cost savings, improved patient satisfaction and, importantly, patient outcomes."
