In a recent post on his blog GatesNotes, Mr. Gates toasted the famed investor, shared his favorite memories and discussed why their friendship has lasted 25 years.
The pairing was introduced by Mr. Gates’ mother at the family’s vacation home. Although Mr. Gates thought their different backgrounds would prevent them from getting along, they instantly hit it off and have remained friends ever since.
Since that day in 1991, both Mr. Gates and his wife Melinda have cherished numerous fond memories of Mr. Buffett, including his desire to eat Oreos for breakfast. Today, Mr. Gates has two numbers on speed dial: his home and Mr. Buffett. Together they chat about everything from politics to companies to current events.
How has their friendship been sustained through a quarter century? “I’ve learned many things from Warren over the last 25 years, but maybe the most important thing is what friendship is all about. It’s about being the kind of friend you wish you had yourself,” Mr. Gates wrote. “Warren has helped [Melinda and me] do two things that are impossible to overdo in one lifetime: learn more and laugh more.”
