CEO to know: Dean Harrison of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare

Dean M. Harrison, MBA, serves as president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, which is comprised of four hospitals, 60 ambulatory and diagnostic sites and over 3,500 physicians.

Northwestern Memorial HealthCare is also the primary teaching affiliate of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and parent corporation to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Harrison has played an integral role in the creation and success of Northwestern Medicine, a strategic partnership between the medical school and health system. He has guided the health system to become a nationally recognized leader in patient safety and quality while continually focusing on increasing patient access across Chicago.

An active community member, Mr. Harrison is involved in numerous community and professional organizations, including serving as the chair-elect of the Illinois Hospital Association, chair of the Business Leadership Group for Workforce Chicago 2.0 and 2013-2015 Community Impact Chair for the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Center for Medical Interoperability, the University HealthSystem Consortium, the Economic Club of Chicago, the Executives’ Club of Chicago, Ikaria, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and World Business Chicago. Additionally, Mr. Harrison serves as special advisor to Merrick Ventures and is a member of the Commercial Club of Chicago and the Institute of Medicine Chicago.

Before joining Northwestern in 1998, Mr. Harrison was president and COO of University of Chicago Health System.
