5 things to know about infection preventionist salary

A study published in the American Journal of Infection Control examined annual compensation for infection preventionists.

Researchers used secondary data from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology 2015 MegaSurvey. The survey polled 13,050 eligible APIC members, of which 4,078 responded.

Here are five findings:

1. The median salary for IPs was $75,000.

2. IPs who indicated their salary was based on industry benchmarks reported a median salary of $85,000.

3. IPs with advanced degrees earned a median salary of $90,000.

4. IPs with bachelor’s degrees or lower received a median salary of $50,000.

5. IPs with CIC designation from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology reported a median salary of $85,000. IPs without CIC reported a median salary of $65,000.
