States with the highest, lowest job resignation rates

Delaware, Alaska and South Carolina have the highest job resignation rates in the U.S., according to WalletHub's 2024 ranking published March 19. Massachusetts, New York and Michigan have the lowest.

The ranking is based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data on the rate at which people quit their jobs in both the latest month and the last 12 months. WalletHub then used these metrics to rank-order the states and Washington, D.C., by resignation rates from highest to lowest. 

States with the highest job resignation rates:

1. Delaware

2. Alaska

3. South Carolina

4. Montana

5. Wyoming

6. West Virginia

7. Kentucky

8. Utah

9. Mississippi

10. Idaho

States with the lowest job resignation rates:

1. Massachusetts

2. New York

3. Michigan

4. California 

5. New Jersey

6. Minnesota 

7. Illinois

8. Hawaii

9. District of Columbia

10. Missouri
