A woman entered a Texas rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility on June 30 with a rifle and opened fire inside the building, the Herald Banner reported July 1.
Police said the woman, identified as 55-year-old Sarah Carter, entered Royse City (Texas) Medical Lodge and began shooting while demanding to see a patient, NBC 5 reported. The Royse City Police Department responded to the call around 9:15 a.m. Upon arrival, patients pointed officers toward a room barricaded by furniture. The officers forced the door open and found Ms. Carter in the room with two patients. She surrendered and was taken into custody within six minutes of the first 911 call, Chief of Police Kirk Aldridge told NBC 5. The police reported that Ms. Carter had a relationship with a resident of the facility.
No injuries were reported. Mr. Aldridge told NBC 5 that most of the bullets went into the ceiling and wall.
Ms. Carter was charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and police said additional charges may be filed.
