Mayo Clinic clarifies hiring practices amid 'false' social media claims

Mayo Clinic is shedding light on its hiring practices after a right-wing social media account posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, accusing the Rochester, Minn.-based health system of discrimination, according to bringmethenews.com

The X account, Libs of TikTok, shared a screenshot of a job description on LinkedIn for a licensed practical nurse in ambulatory cardiology, with the location in Arizona, where Mayo has campuses. The job description says Mayo is partnering with Jobs for Humanity "to build an inclusive and just employment ecosystem."

"Therefore, we prioritize individuals coming from the following communities: Refugee, Neurodivergent, Single Parent, Blind or Low Vision, Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Military Veterans, the Elderly, the LGBTQ, and Justice Impacted Individuals," the description reads.

With the screenshot, Libs of TikTok wrote: "Top healthcare company Mayo Clinic is discriminating against straight white people in their 'inclusive' hiring practices."

The claim was shared on social media by X owner Elon Musk.

Mayo responded to the claims in a statement shared with Becker's, saying it "is aware of a situation on social media where an organization, claiming to be Jobs for Humanity, stated they partnered with Mayo Clinic to promote a job opportunity."

Mayo said the information is false.

"Jobs for Humanity is not a Mayo Clinic partner and used language for their post that we did not write or authorize," the health system's statement reads. "The post mischaracterizes our recruitment practices. All qualified candidates receive equal consideration for employment at Mayo Clinic."
