The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general partnerships took place or were announced in January.

1. CHS sells controlling interest in home health business to drive down debt
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed the sale of a majority interest in CHS Home Health to Louisville, Ky.-based Almost Family, a provider of home health nursing services.

2. Dignity Health partners with Kindred for outpatient therapy
Dignity Health Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, Calif., partnered with Kindred Rehabilitation Services.

3. Banner's management of Alaska hospital comes to an end
Fairbanks (Alaska) Memorial Hospital's more than 15-year affiliation with Phoenix-based Banner Health ended Jan. 1.

4. UW Health, Marshfield Clinic drop out of Wisconsin's AboutHealth network
UW Health and Marshfield Clinic Health System's Jan. 1 departure from AboutHealth, a statewide collaborative, brings the number of health systems participating in the Wisconsin network from eight to six.

5. Envision acquires 16-physician anesthesia group in Arizona
Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Envision Healthcare Corporation's physician services division acquired Tucson, Ariz.-based Oro Valley Anesthesia.

6. Fairview adds Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital to system
Grand Rapids, Minn.-based Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital became a wholly owned subsidiary of Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services Jan. 1.

7. Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine affiliate for medical student education
New York City-based Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine on the island of Saint Martin inked a 10-year affiliation agreement to allow AUC medical students to complete clinical training at Bronx-Lebanon.

8. 2017 brings KU Hospital, Hays Medical Center partnership into effect
Kansas City-based The University of Kansas Hospital's partnership agreement with Hays (Kan.) Medical Center was effective Jan. 1.

9. Fla. Keys hospital board requests divestiture from CHS
The Lower Florida Keys Hospital District board requested Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems add Lower Keys Medical Center to its growing portfolio of hospital divestures.

10. Albany Medical Center, Saratoga Hospital finalize alliance
Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center and Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., finalized their affiliation agreement in the first week of 2017.

11. State regulators OK Kaiser's $2B takeover of Group Health
Washington state insurance regulators endorsed Kaiser Permanente's proposed acquisition of Seattle-based Group Health Cooperative in a hearing before Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler Jan. 4.

12. Partners HealthCare expands footprint into New Hampshire
Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H., became part of Boston-based Partners HealthCare Jan. 1. 

13. Accumen, Detroit Medical Center collaborate for patient blood management
Accumen, a lab transformation company based in San Diego, partnered with Detroit Medical Center on a three-year, multifacility engagement.

14. Global Medical REIT to acquire Kansas hospital for $24.5M
Global Medical REIT, a Bethesda, Md.-based company engaged in the acquisition and leasing of healthcare facilities, entered into an agreement Dec. 30 to acquire 33-bed Great Bend (Kan.) Regional Hospital.

15. Saratoga Hospital, YMCA partner for $7M physician office
Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Saratoga Hospital and the Saratoga Regional YMCA filed plans to build a $7 million medical office in Malta, N.Y.

16. Envision Healthcare scoops up another physician practice in acquisition spree
Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Envision Healthcare's physician services division acquired the 50-physician Emergency Professional Services group in Phoenix Jan. 5.

17. Wellmont acquires Takoma Regional Hospital
Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System acquired Takoma Regional Hospital, a 100-bed hospital in Greeneville, Tenn.

18. Surgical Care Affiliates, OptumCare to merge
Deerfield, Ill.-based Surgical Care Affiliates merged with health services company Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.

19. 3 New Hampshire hospitals complete affiliation to form GraniteOne Health
Three New Hampshire hospitals ─ Manchester-based Catholic Medical Center, Wolfeboro-based Huggins Hospital and Peterborough-based Monadnock Community Hospital ─ completed their affiliation agreement to form GraniteOne Health.

20. Tenet to sell multiple hospitals, home health business
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare refined its hospital operations portfolio by selling hospitals in noncore markets.

21. Nationwide Children's Hospital, Sarepta Therapeutics enter into research agreement
Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Children's Hospital and Cambridge, Mass.-based RNA-targeted therapeutics provider Sarepta Therapeutics entered into a research and option agreement on the hospital's microdystrophin gene therapy program.

22. UMass Memorial Medical Center to join Dana-Farber Cancer Care Collaborative
Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Medical Center was the first academic medical center to join the Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Care Collaborative.

23. Penn State College of Medicine, Summit Health forge academic partnership
Hershey, Pa.-based Penn State College of Medicine and Chambersburg, Pa.-based Summit Health expanded an existing partnership to provide training opportunities to PennState medical students pursuing careers in the medical field.

24. Little Company of Mary Hospital explores affiliation opportunities
Chicago-based Little Company of Mary Hospital said it is evaluating partners for a strategic partnership.

25. Ochsner adds 16 clinics with new acquisition
New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System acquired Millennium Healthcare Management, which owns 16 urgent care and occupational health clinics throughout southeast Louisiana.

26. LabCorp to acquire, provide services at Mount Sinai Health System laboratories
Burlington, N.C.-based Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings and New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System entered into a definitive agreement to allow LabCorp to acquire and provide services at the health system's clinical outreach laboratories.

27. Pekin Hospital, UnityPoint-Peoria finalize affiliation agreement
UnityPoint Health-Peoria (Ill.) completed its affiliation with Pekin (Ill.) Hospital. The agreement was effective Jan. 1.

28. HealthSouth, Memorial Hospital enter joint venture to operate rehabilitation hospital
Birmingham, Ala.-based HealthSouth and Memorial Hospital at Gulfport in Mississippi confirmed a joint venture to own and operate a 33-bed physical rehabilitation center on Memorial Hospital's campus.

29. MultiCare, Navos affiliate to expand behavioral health services
Tacoma, Wash.-based MultiCare Health and Seattle-based Navos, a mental health services provider, affiliated to create a stronger system of behavioral health services for patients in the Puget Sound area.

30. UnityPoint Health-Waterloo to buy bankrupt Iowa hospital
Marshalltown-based Central Iowa Healthcare, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2016, completed a preliminary step to join UnityPoint Health-Waterloo (Iowa), an affiliate of West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health.

31. Sacred Heart Health System to take over operations of 4 Fla. Walgreens clinics
Officials from Pensacola, Fla.-based Sacred Heart Health System and Walgreens unveiled a collaboration Jan. 11 in which Sacred Heart will operate and provide clinical services at four of Walgreens' retail health clinics.

32. Norwalk Medical Group to join Westmed Medical Group
Purchase, N.Y.-based Westmed Medical Group continued its expansion into Connecticut, adding Norwalk (Conn.) Medical Group to its network.

33. TriHealth, Xavier University partner to expand collegiate health services
TriHealth and Xavier University, both in Cincinnati, partnered to boost collegiate health and wellness on Xavier's campus.

34. Dodge City Medical Center partners with Centura Health Physician Group
Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health Physician Group acquired Dodge City (Kan.) Medical Center to recruit more specialty physicians to the area.

35. CHS responds to Florida hospital's divestiture request
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems will not terminate its lease of Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West, Fla., following the hospital's request.

36. Lovelace Health System to partner with UNM medical group
Albuquerque, N.M.-based Lovelace Health System and the University of New Mexico Medical Group, the faculty practice of the Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico School of Medicine, partnered to deliver rehabilitation services to patients in the area.

37. Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Sectra partner to improve breast healthcare
The Lynn Sage Comprehensive Breast Center at Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial Hospital and medical imaging IT company Sectra entered into a multiyear agreement to improve the quality of breast care and cancer detection at the hospital.

38. MD Anderson, Deerfield Management form joint venture to develop targeted cancer treatment
Houston-based The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and Deerfield Management formed a joint venture company dedicated to performing drug discovery and research focused on advancing autophagy-targeted therapeutics for cancer treatment.

39. OhioHealth affiliates with 2 Ohio healthcare organizations
Columbus-based OhioHealth finalized an affiliation agreement with Cambridge-based Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center and Guernsey Health Systems, also in Cambridge.

40. Florida Hospital to operate 15 Walgreens clinics in Tampa area
Orlando-based Florida Hospital signed an agreement to operate and provide clinical services at 15 Walgreens retail health clinics in the Tampa Bay area.

41. Rennova Health completes acquisition of shuttered Tennessee hospital
West Palm Beach, Fla.-based Rennova Health completed its acquisition of Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Tenn., which closed July 1.

42. Billings Clinic joins Excelera national specialty pharmacy network
The Excelera Specialty Pharmacy Network, a national network of specialty pharmacies, added Billings (Mont.) Clinic to its network. 

43. Prime Healthcare, Accumen to partner
Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare partnered with healthcare transformation company Accumen to create a comprehensive patient blood management solution and to improve operations across Prime Healthcare's laboratories.

44. Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian partner with nonprofit to advance cancer research
New York City-based hospitals Columbia University Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian, and patient advocacy organization the Life Raft Group, entered into a collaborative research agreement to investigate and identify the best treatment options for patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

45. Mon Health System, Stonewall Jackson Memorial declare intent to partner
Morgantown, W.Va.-based Mon Health System and Weston, W.Va.-based Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital signed a letter of intent to pursue a potential partnership.

46. Florida Hospital, Tampa General partner with Metro Development on 'Connected City'
Orlando-based Florida Hospital and Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital partnered with Metro Development Group to construct a health-focused wellness district.

47. EvergreenHealth forms joint venture with Overlake Medical Center
Kirkland, Wash.-based EvergreenHealth and Bellevue, Wash.-based Overlake Medical Center formed a joint venture to improve access to and coordination of care to residents in the Puget Sound area.

48. Winchester Medical Center partners with Advanced ICU Care on telemedicine services
Winchester (Va.) Medical Center partnered with telemedicine services provider Advanced ICU Care to provide telemedicine services to patients and residents in the area. 

49. UPMC, others launch international coalition to improve cancer care
UPMC, in conjunction with the Union for International Cancer Control, the World Economic Forum, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the National Cancer Institute and others, launched a global initiative that aims to provide quality cancer care in cities around the world with populations exceeding 1 million lives.

50. UH Hospitals acquires Westshore Primary Care
Cleveland-based UH Hospitals acquired 63 primary and specialty care physicians from Westlake, Ohio-based Westshore Primary Care, effective Jan. 1. 

51. Graham Health System, UnityPoint-Peoria collaborate on joint venture
Canton, Ill.-based Graham Home Health & Hospice, a division of Canton, Ill.-based Graham Health System, will form a joint venture with UnityPoint Health-Peoria (Ill.) to provide home health and hospice services to residents in the area.

52. The Grand Healthcare System completes acquisition of NY hospital
Queens, N.Y.-based The Grand Healthcare System completed its acquisition of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based River Valley Care Center, a nursing and rehabilitation care center.

53. Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas to affiliate with UT Medical Branch
Beaumont-based Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas signed a clinical affiliation agreement with The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The agreement was effective Jan. 1.

54. Wheeling Hospital acquires Harrison Community Hospital
Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital acquired Cadiz, Ohio-based Harrison Community Hospital. 

55. Duncan Regional Hospital to lease, operate Jefferson County Hospital
Duncan (Okla.) Regional Hospital will lease the facility and assume operations at Waurika, Okla.-based Jefferson County Hospital, effective Feb. 1.

56. Doylestown Health to join Sidney Kimmel Cancer Network
Doylestown (Pa.) Health joined the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Network, an initiative started by Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health. The affiliation was effective Jan. 1. 

57. Mount Sinai, Valley Health System partner to provide cancer care to NJ residents
New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System and Ridgewood, N.J.-based Valley Health System partnered on an initiative to enhance cancer care for patients in northern New Jersey.

58. Shuttered Oklahoma hospital strikes deal to reopen
Under a deal finalized Jan. 17, Sayre (Okla.) Memorial Hospital, a 31-bed nonprofit hospital, will have the chance to reopen after abruptly closing almost a year ago.

59. UPMC strikes deal with Robert Morris University for sponsored sports complex, employee insurance
UPMC and Pittsburgh-based Robert Morris University signed a 20-year contract allowing the health system to sponsor the university's new sports complex, as well as provide health services for university employees and students.

60. ContextMedia to acquire AccentHealth
Chicago-based ContextMedia, a leading healthcare decision platform, acquired Tampa, Fla.-based AccentHealth.

61. RCCA partners with Connecticut cancer center
Hackensack, N.J.-based Regional Cancer Care Associates continued its expansion along the East Coast with the acquisition of Medical Oncology and Blood Disorders, a cancer center based in Hartford, Conn.

62. CHOP signs preclinical research collaboration with NeuroVive
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia signed a preclinical research agreement with Lund, Sweden-based NeuroVive Pharmaceutical AB to advance research and development in models of mitochondrial complex I dysfunction.

63. ADCS Clinics completes acquisition of Dermatology Associates of Colorado
Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, one of the nation's largest dermatology practices, acquired Dermatology Associates of Colorado.

64. Shelby Memorial Hospital joins Hospital Sisters Health System, rebrands
Shelby Memorial Hospital in Shelbyville, Ill., joined Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System Jan. 23.

65. Michigan women's health center sells for $43.5M
A Florida real estate investment firm purchased Grand Rapids-based Women's Health Center of West Michigan, a four-story, 106,806-square-foot medical building, for $43.5 million.

66. Navicent Health to join AVIA network
Macon, Ga.-based Navicent Health joined the Chicago-based AVIA Innovator Network, a network of more than 20 health systems seeking to transform healthcare through digital strategy. 

67. Rideout Regional Medical Center, Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health collaborate on mental health program
Marysville, Calif.-based Rideout Regional Medical Center, in collaboration with Yuba City, Calif.-based Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health and Emeryville, Calif.-based CEP America, will collaborate on a mental health program to provide patients with quality care and to notify them of community resources available for use.

68. Stillwater Medical Center takes full ownership of Oklahoma hospice center
Stillwater (Okla.) Medical Center's board of trustees approved a proposal to buy out the medical center's partner and become the sole owner of Judith Karman Bristol Hospice, also in Stillwater.

69. Mednax to acquire neonatology practice in Utah
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Mednax acquired Salt Lake City-based Western Newborn Specialists, a private neonatal physician practice.

70. San Francisco General Hospital, UCSF negotiate lease for new research building
UCSF's board of supervisors' budget finance committee will consider committing to a 75-year lease on a 175,000-square-foot research facility set to be constructed atop a parking lot structure outside San Francisco General Hospital's former emergency room. The project will reportedly cost $200 million.

71. 9 Indiana hospitals sign letter of intent to create medical residency consortium
Leaders from nine northwest Indiana health organizations signed a letter of intent to create a medical residency consortium to train future physicians based at local hospitals, community health centers and mental health agencies.

72. UnityPoint Health-Meriter to affiliate with Wisconsin hospital
Madison, Wis.-based UnityPoint Health-Meriter affiliated with Darlington, Wis.-based Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.

73. Montefiore Health System partners with Quest Diagnostics for lab services
Bronx, N.Y.-based Montefiore Health System inked a partnership agreement with Quest Diagnostics allowing the company to provide diagnostic laboratory services at the health system.

74. Navicent Health, The Medical Center collaborate on program to help patients with atrial fibrillation
Macon, Ga.-based Navicent Health and Bowling Green, Ky.-based The Medical Center partnered on a program to raise awareness and offer medical assistance to patients with atrial fibrillation. 

75. Northwell Health to acquire NY home healthcare agency
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health plans to acquire the Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Visiting Nurse Association of Hudson Valley, a certified nonprofit home healthcare agency.

76. Ridgecrest Regional Hospital joins UC Davis Cancer Center Network
Ridgecrest (Calif.) Regional Hospital teamed up with the UC Davis Cancer Care Network to expand and improve oncology services to residents in the Ridgecrest area.

77. NewYork-Presbyterian Queens partners with St. John's University
NewYork-Presbyterian Queens (N.Y.) will become the official hospital of Jamaica, N.Y.-based St. John's University's athletic department.

78. Buffalo Heart Group merges with Catholic Health
Buffalo (N.Y.) Heart Group joined Trinity Medical WNY, the physician practice network affiliated with Catholic Health, also located in Buffalo.

79. Prime Healthcare to convert RI hospital back into nonprofit
Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare will convert Woonsocket, R.I.-based Landmark Medical Center back into a nonprofit entity by donating the organization to its foundation, the Prime Healthcare Foundation.

80. UIC, Chicago sign partnership formalizing state's first academic public health department
The University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and the Chicago Department of Public Health signed a 10-year agreement to form the state's first academic public health department.

81. Passavant Area Hospital acquires Physical Therapists Clinic
Jacksonville, Ill.-based Passavant Area Hospital declared its intent to acquire Physical Therapists Clinic, which has locations in Jacksonville and Beardstown, Ill.

82. Moab Regional Hospital acquires family medicine center
On Jan. 1, Moab (Utah) Regional Hospital acquired Moab Family Medicine in an effort to establish better healthcare stability for local residents.

83. Walgreens, Rite Aid extend merger agreement, slash deal by $2B
Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens Boots Alliance and Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite Aid amended and extended their previous merger agreement under which Walgreens would acquire all outstanding shares of Rite Aid.

84. Beth Israel Deaconess, Lahey Health green light merger negotiations
Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Health  signed a letter of intent to merge after years of on-again, off-again negotiations.

85. Alameda Health System, Conifer Health partner on management solutions
Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda Health System partnered with Frisco, Texas-based Conifer Health Solutions to provide management and consulting services to better serve the residents of AlamedaCounty.

86. Massachusetts Eye and Ear declares plans to join Partners HealthCare
Boston-based Massachusetts Eye and Ear will join Partners HealthCare, also in Boston.

87. Mednax acquires Tennessee radiology practice
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Mednax acquired Nashville, Tenn.-based Radiology Alliance, one of the largest private practice radiology groups in the state.
