Under the contract, the 140,000-square-foot sports complex will be branded the “UPMC Events Center,” with construction slated to begin in July. The health system will also offer about 600 RMU employees heath insurance through the UPMC Health Plan beginning in July. Approximately 5,000 students will be offered health insurance and receive continued access to UPMC’s on-campus health center.

The agreement also makes UPMC the exclusive provider of sports medicine for the university’s sports teams, according to the report.

RMU previously contracted health plans through Highmark and Aetna. It is unclear if those health plans will be offered with the UPMC Health Plan, Trib Live reports.

Financial details of the contract were undisclosed.
