Lovelace Health System to partner with UNM medical group

Albuquerque, N.M.-based Lovelace Health System and the University of New Mexico Medical Group, the faculty practice of the Albuquerque-based University of New Mexico School of Medicine, are partnering to deliver rehabilitation services to patients in the area.

Under the agreement, the 62-bed Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital will be rebranded as Lovelace UNM Rehabilitation Hospital. UNM physicians will begin providing services at the location and its affiliated outpatient clinics in 2017. The institutions also plan to launch a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency program at the hospital.

As part of the agreement, Lovelace Health System will retain all current medical personnel and leadership employed at the hospital and will continue to manage the facility's daily operations. UNM will appoint a chief academic officer to join the hospital's existing leadership team to represent the university's interests at the hospital. Officials from both institutions will also elect a six-member board to govern the institution. Three members will be appointed by Lovelace and three will be appointed by UNM.

"We are partnering with UNM Medical Group and the university to serve a growing need in the community for specialized rehabilitation services," said Derrick Jones, CEO of Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital. "This partnership allows us to continue to provide quality rehabilitation services while increasing access to these services and an opportunity to advance services through UNM's academic and educational expertise."
