Lakeside Memorial Hospital in New York Officially Begins Closure Process

Lakeside Health System in Brockport, N.Y., has officially started a full closure process for its 61-bed acute-care hospital, Lakeside Memorial Hospital, according to a bulletin on the hospital's website.

In a statement, Lakeside Board Chair Nancy Plews said, "We have pursued all options. Despite our best efforts, [New York] has concluded that it will be unable to provide sufficient financial support from its vital access provider fund in order for the hospital to move forward. This is a tremendously sad day for our employees, medical staff, volunteers and our entire community."

Lakeside Memorial officially stopped accepting inpatient admissions this past Saturday. Effective Friday, no new patients will be seen in the emergency department. By this upcoming Saturday, all remaining inpatients will be transferred to area hospitals, and the hospital will close its doors April 30.
