Mission Hospital CEO to leave post: 5 things to know

Kenneth McFarland, CEO of Mission Hospital, with locations in Mission Viejo, Calif., and Laguna Beach, Calif., will resign next month, according to an Orange County Register report.

Here are five things to know about Mr. McFarland.

1. He is resigning to "pursue new career opportunities," according to the report.

2. His expected last day at Mission Hospital is Feb. 5.

3. Mission Hospital's accomplishments during Mr. McFarland's tenure include opening a new patient tower and a neuroscience and spine institute, according to the Orange County Register.

4. During Mr. McFarland's tenure, Mission Hospital also faced challenges. In 2014, the hospital postponed all elective surgeries after a cluster of reported infections.

5. Mr. McFarland will be replaced in the interim by Richard Afable, MD, president and CEO of St. Joseph Hoag Health in Newport Beach, Calif.
