Prior to Mr. Sarnecki’s appointment, Mike McDevitt served as both vice president and CIO of the hospital. However, Children’s of Alabama officials decided to separate the positions to address the growing importance of health IT, according to the Birmingham Business Journal.

The hospital’s board of trustees will have final approval over whether Mr. Sarnecki will become the hospital’s permanent CIO.

Mr. Sarnecki previously served as manager of ClearDATA Healthcare Cloud Computing, the Birmingham Business Journal reports. He was also the former CIO of Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Kingman (Ariz.) Regional Medical Center.
