6 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Six hospitals or health systems announced, started or completed construction projects in the last three weeks:

1. Chicago's Provident Hospital to build $242M replacement facility
Chicago-based Provident Hospital is planning to build a $242 million replacement facility steps away from its current location.

2. Dignity Health Chandler Regional begins construction of 5-story medical center
Construction has begun on a new five-story, 220,000-square-foot medical tower at Dignity Health Chandler (Ariz.) Regional Medical Center.

3. MD Anderson to double size of proton therapy center
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston will invest $159 million to double the size of its proton therapy center to more than 160,000 square feet.

4. Oregon hospital to build $235M medical tower
Salem (Ore.) Hospital plans to build a seven-story, $235 million medical tower.

5. Cleveland Clinic to build neurological institute, expand eye institute
Cleveland Clinic plans to build a neurological institute and expand its Cole Eye Institute on its 165-acre campus.

6. Kaiser Permanente to build 5-story medical center in Virginia
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente will open a new five-story, multispecialty medical center in Woodbridge, Va. It will be the seventh location in the region for the expanding health network.
