Walgreens, Susan G. Komen Chicago partner on breast cancer screening initiative

Deerfield, Ill.-based Walgreens and other Chicago-based healthcare providers are partnering with Susan G. Komen Chicago to reduce U.S. breast cancer deaths by 50 percent by 2026.

Under the Rewards for Mammograms partnership, women who receive a mammogram by Oct. 31 from participating Chicago-based Presence Health facilities will have the opportunity to receive 1,000 Walgreens Balance Rewards points. Walgreens also plans to donate $1 to Susan G. Komen Chicago for each valid program voucher redeemed in-stores, up to $30,000.

The partnership aims to encourage at least 100,000 women in the Chicagoland area to receive a mammogram by Oct. 31.

"Susan G. Komen Chicago is excited to launch this ambitious initiative as we continue to drive awareness of the importance of mammography," said Bonnie Gordon, executive director of Susan G. Komen Chicago. "With Rewards For Mammograms, we want Chicagoland women to know getting a mammogram is easy, but more importantly, it is vital as early detection is key in the fight to reduce breast cancer deaths in Chicago and the U.S."
