Nationwide Children’s names chief diversity and health equity officer

Columbus, Ohio-based Nationwide Children’s Hospital has tapped O.N. Ray Bignall II, MD, as chief diversity and health equity officer.

Dr. Bignall is a pediatric nephrologist who was named assistant chief diversity and health equity officer in 2022, according to a July 17 news release from the hospital. He has been working alongside Olivia Thomas, MD, who pioneered the role at the hospital and led its health equity office for more than a decade. Although Dr. Thomas is retiring, she will remain onboard in an advisory role through 2023. 

Dr. Bignall has been nationally recognized for his expertise in health equity, per the news release. He has served as a member of the White House’s Health Equity Roundtable, and currently works as an associate professor and director of kidney health advocacy and community engagement for the division of nephrology and hypertension at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
