CEO Donna Katen-Bahensky: Altruistic Leader of UW Hospital and Clinics

Donna Katen-Bahensky has served as president and CEO of University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, part of UW Health, since February 2008.

Under Ms. Katen-Bahensky's tenure, UW Hospital has received recognition for its quality care and dedicated medical staff. It has also received recognition for its physician involvement and leadership, evidence-based evaluations, innovation supply-chain approaches and long-term commitment to continuous improvement.

Between her commitment to improving and leading UW Hospital, Ms. Katen-Bahensky finds time to focus on health issues that matter to her, such as children's health and wellness. American Family Children's Hospital is adjacent to UW Hospital and Ms. Katen-Bahensky visits their often. Through UW Health, she is working with the children's hospital to launch the "Sick Kids Can't Wait" campaign to raise resources to expand the hospital and offer more services to children and families who need them.

Her time and efforts towards the "Sick Kids Can't Wait" campaign demonstrates her altruistic leadership style. She also has served as a board member for multiple Madison community non-profit organizations including the United Way, Ronald McDonald House and American Red Cross.

Before her tenure as UW Hospital CEO, Ms. Katen-Bahensky served as CEO of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, as well as the senior associate vice president for medical affairs at the University of Iowa Health Care also in Iowa City.
