Mayo Clinic reveals details of expansion project

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic revealed that its new investments in downtown Rochester will add an additional 1.9 million square feet of space to the health system, local news outlet KROC reported Sept. 24.

While the health system has not yet released renderings or drawings of the projects, documents submitted to the Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission indicate that the health system will add 1.7 million square feet for medical care at its current Ozmun Building and Damon Parking Ramp site. To make space for the new medical care buildings, the health system will demolish its parking structures at the Ozmun Building and the Damon Parking Ramp.

To compensate for the loss in parking, Mayo Clinic will also build two new parking buildings. The expansion is expected to take five years, with construction beginning in 2024.
