Hospitals and unions: 6 recent conflicts, agreements

Becker's Hospital Review reported the following hospital-union events after May 21.

1. The union representing nurses and other healthcare professionals at Paramus, N.J.-based Bergen New Bridge Medical Center reached a contract with the hospital's new operators.

2. Mental health clinicians and healthcare professionals at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente facilities plan to strike June 11 over behavioral healthcare access.

3. Toledo, Ohio-based Mercy Health-St. Vincent Medical Center's unionized technical workers and support staff voted June 2 to end their strike against the hospital.

4. Nurses in San Francisco's healthcare system signed a "no confidence" letter to the city public health department, expressing their dissatisfaction with the way San Francisco has handled staffing.

5. Registered nurses held informational pickets May 28 outside Arizona, California and Florida hospitals owned by Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare.

6. Hospital workers from Pittsburgh-based UPMC went on strike May 28, the same day the board of UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside met for its annual public meeting at UPMC Montefiore in Pittsburgh.
