Santa Clara Valley Healthcare opens refugee tuberculosis clinic

Santa Clara Valley Healthcare in San Jose, Calif., opened the new Valley Health Center Lundy primary care clinic, which will host the Tuberculosis Clinic & Refugee Health Assessment Program, according to an Aug. 30 new release.

Santa Clara County has the third highest tuberculosis case rate as well as the highest number of refugees in California. As the only outpatient center specializing in tuberculosis in the county, VHC Lundy clinic aims to address the needs of refugee and immigrant populations through culturally competent care, according to the report.

Services offered at the airborne isolation facility include screening, preventative therapy, evaluation and treatment of tuberculosis as well as federally required screening for other communicable diseases and chronic health conditions.

Additionally, the Refugee Health Assessment Program provides primary care services, specialty care referrals, vaccinations, and mental health assessments and referrals.
