5 keys for leading and inspiring executive teams during times of change

Executive teams look to their CEOs during times of change for leadership and encouragement, but persuading these highly qualified and often skeptical individuals to follow a new game plan can often be difficult, according to Chief Executive.

Here are five steps leaders can take to ensure everyone on their team is on the same page during moments of great change:

1. Ensure the right people are in the right jobs. Only if everyone is in a role allowing them to function to the best of their abilities can you generate buy-in among your team.

2. Lead with purpose. It is important to not only make team members focus on their individual tasks, but to remind them how those tasks contribute to the greater goal.

3. Leave breadcrumbs. In a vacuum, big goals become lost. Leaders must take a piecemeal approach that turns steps to the ultimate goal into goals themselves.

4. Be visible. Nothing communicates the importance of a mission like the presence of a CEO, and if you lead by example from the top down, your team will follow your lead.

5. Celebrate. Successes, no matter how small, must be celebrated. It is easy for teams to get discouraged without seeing immediate results, but celebrating milestones helps drive productivity and boost morale.
