Walter Reed Patients Moved to National Naval Medical Center in Maryland

The last patients of Walter Reed Army Medical Center have been transferred to National Naval Medical Center as the two hospitals prepare for the merge, according to a Washington Post report.

National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center will officially merge in September. The merger is a requirement of the 2005 federal Base Realignment and Closure mandate, requiring military facilities across the country to close or consolidate. The joint facility, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, will feature a 245-acre campus and is scheduled to open Sept. 15.
