5 signs of a toxic work culture

Bullying, condescending communication and lack of representation are all signs of a toxic work environment, according to a July 5 MIT Sloan article.

After reviewing more than 1 million workplace reviews on Glassdoor, a group of researchers from MIT Sloan School of Management identified these five common traits of a toxic workplace:

  1. Poor and non-inclusive representation of employees of different races, genders sexual orientation, etc.

  2. Lack of courtesy and consideration between colleagues and a disrespectful manner of communication.

  3. Dishonest behavior and unethical abuses of regulation and policy.

  4. Work environment in which colleagues undermine each other.

  5. Management that talks down, condescends and openly bullies its employees.
