Stanford, Blue Shield Finalize 3-Year Contract

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Blue Shield of California agreed to a three-year contract that would set rates for Blue Shield's HMO and PPO, according to a San Jose Mercury News report.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Blue Shield members would have been out-of-network if a deal had not been reached by last Friday.

In a statement, Stanford University Vice President and CFO of Business Affairs Randy Livingston said, "We're very pleased that [Stanford] and Blue Shield were able to complete a new agreement in the nick of time, averting potential confusion and disruption for Stanford employees and post-docs with Blue Shield coverage who receive services from SHC."
