Eight California hospitals owned by for-profit hospital operator giant Hospital Corporation of America and California health insurer Anthem Blue Cross have reached a tentative, verbal contract agreement, according to a San Jose Business Journal report.
An Anthem spokesperson said only a verbal agreement has been made so far, although a contract is expected to signed, according to the report.
Contract talks fizzled out during the beginning of March. Leslie Kelsay, vice president of marketing and communications for HCA's Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, said in the report that low reimbursement rates for medical procedures were the primary cause for the initial contract impasse, and the new deal is expected to be effective April 1.
