Chicago-based Rush University System for Health has laid off an undisclosed number of workers in administrative and leadership positions, citing "financial headwinds affecting healthcare providers nationwide."
"Rush continues to focus resources where they are needed most — at the front line of patient care," the health system said in a statement shared with Becker's. "This will help ensure we continue to fulfill our mission to improve the health of the individuals and diverse communities we serve."
No additional information was provided about the layoffs, including the number of affected employees.
University of Chicago Medical Center also laid off workers on Feb. 1. The layoffs affected less than 2% of its roughly 13,000-person workforce. The organization said the majority of affected positions are not direct patient facing.
