Arizona Hospital Association Sues State Over Medicaid Cuts

The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association has filed suit against the state's plan to reduce Medicaid payments to providers by 5 percent, retroactive to Oct. 1, according to an Arizona Republic report.

The AzHHA is asking the U.S. District Court in Phoenix to block the cuts, approved by CMS last week.

The 5 percent cuts are part of Gov. Jan Brewer's larger plan to cut spending by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System by $500 million.

The AzHHA said the cuts will shift costs to private payors. The cuts follow a previous 5 percent cut to AHCCCS providers in April, according to the report.
