Bert Fish Medical Center Renews Search for Merger Partner

The Southeast Volusia Hospital District, which oversees Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., is seeking a new law firm to help it identify a new partner for a merger, according to a Daytona Beach News-Journal report.

Earlier this week, the hospital's former law firm agreed to pay the district $6 million to settle claims it had given the hospital faulty legal advice in regards to its previous merger with Florida Hospital in Orlando, part of Adventist Health System.

Bert Fish merged with Adventist in 2010, but a judge later invalidated the deal, ruling the meetings surrounding the merger violated the state's Sunshine, or open meetings, law.

Three law firms will present to the district board in early June.
