Michigan's Saint Joseph Mercy, Physician Group IHA to Merge

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich., and IHA, one of the largest physician group practices in the Ann Arbor area, have announced they will merge, according to a Saint Joseph Mercy news release.

IHA includes more than 150 physicians and 40 mid-level providers at 47 different locations.

The intent of the merger, which is expected to close on or before Dec. 31, is to develop an integrated health network. "Our merger with IHA will create an integrated organization that will proactively advance clinical integration, patient-centered care and community health. It will provide the framework and structure to increase the role of physicians in SJMHS leadership and operations," Rob Casalou, president and CEO of Saint Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, Livingston and Saline, said in the release. "The merger will enable us to better prepare for rapid changes in healthcare delivery and financing stimulated by national health reform and lead to better coordinated care for our patients."

Concurrently, IHA, SJMHS and its parent organization, Novi, Mich.-based Trinity Health, are accelerating affiliations and joint ventures with the University of Michigan Health System.
