Plans by the Cook County Health & Hospitals System to close its Oak Forest (Ill.) Hospital and convert it to an outpatient facility may be hindered by a report issued yesterday, findings its closure could hurt access to care for the uninsured, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
The report was commissioned by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board, which can approve or deny the closure.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board announced in March its intent to deny the planned closure, prompting the health system to "retool" its application, according to the report. An official decision is expected May 10. The health system announced plans to close the hospital in June 2010.
