Florida's Martin Memorial Health System Submits Plans for New Hospital After Defeating HCA Appeal

Stuart, Fla.-based Martin Memorial Health System has submitted plans to the city to build a new, 90-bed hospital, the third for the health system, according to a TCPalm.com report.

The new hospital, which will be called Tradition Medical Center, is expected to create more than 460 jobs. The initial capital investment for the facility is expected to exceed $100 million, according to the report.

Martin Memorial hopes to break ground on the project in early 2012 with completion expected in early 2014.

HCA, which operates nearby Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and St. Lucie Medical Center, opposed the new hospital, which was initially granted a certificate of need by the state in 2007. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, however, ruled against HCA's challenges.
