County Questions Miami's Jackson Health System's Deficit Projections

Officials from Miami-Dade County are questioning the calculations financially struggling Jackson Health System is using to determine how they are closing in on a $230 million budget deficit, according to a report in The Miami Herald.

The projections were based on April 2010 data provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers, developed while the company was trying to arrange an agreement to handle some of Jackson's business operations, according to the report. CEO Eneida Roldan and CFO Ted Shaw have supported PwC's projections.

Contract negotiations between PwC and other outside company's have slowed Jackson's projected progress, but the hospital system is expecting to see an estimated increase in billing and collections of $39 million for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.
