Healthcare CEOs earned highest pay in 2015 compared to other industries

Compensation for CEOs of healthcare organizations in the Standard & Poor's 500 index was millions higher than their executive peers in other industries in 2015, according to Equilar and the Associated Press' S&P 500 CEO Pay Study 2016.

Healthcare companies in the S&P 500 saw the highest pay packages, reaching $14.5 million median pay. Utilities CEOs earned a median take home pay of $9.3 million, the lowest of the industry sectors in the study.

Here are the CEO median compensation pay packages for the highest earning industries in the S&P 500 in 2015, according to the study, as reported by the Star Tribune.

1. Healthcare — median compensation of $14.5 million, up 7 percent from 2014

2. Basic materials — median compensation of $12.3 million, up 3 percent from 2014

3. Industrial goods — median compensation of $12 million, up 3 percent from 2014

Here are the CEO median compensation pay packages for the lowest earning industries.

1. Utilities — median compensation of $9.3 million, up 7 percent from 2014

2. Services — median compensation of $9.4 million, flat

3. Technology — median compensation of $10.2 million, up 5 percent from 2014
