Indiana (Pa.) Regional Medical Center is planning a new inpatient behavioral health center at its new medical school, the Indiana Gazette reported Oct. 11.
The center will be 33,000 square feet, have 44 rooms, and serve as a foundation for the hospital's planned medical school.
The hospital's current inpatient behavioral health unit only admits patients 55 and older. The new center will allow the hospital to admit adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
A final design plan has not been approved and a slated date for construction has yet to be announced.
The construction comes as a step in IRMC's larger plan to become a teaching hospital. In July, it began its rural family medicine residency program.
