CHC Consulting announces management of Morehouse General Hospital

Community Hospital Consulting, the management and consulting arm of Community Hospital Corporation, is pleased to announce a new agreement to manage Morehouse General Hospital of Bastrop, La., effective May 23, 2016. A seasoned CHC Consulting executive is onsite serving as Interim CEO and expert teams will soon begin a full Operational Assessment.

Morehouse General Hospital, a 49-bed community hospital, offers many of the benefits of a larger hospital in a metropolitan area, including a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, advanced technology and equipment, and highly skilled staff. The hospital serves the Northeast Louisiana and Southeast Arkansas region with a mission "to provide the highest quality and most cost effective care which sustains and improves the health of all those we serve." The hospital first opened in 1930 as a 19-bed facility.

CHC will collaborate with the Hospital District, which retains governance over the hospital. CHC's Gary Kendrick is Interim CEO, and is working closely with District leaders: "I am excited to be on board to help improve the hospital and the wellness of area populations." Kendrick, a hospital administrator since 1980, most recently fulfilled an Interim CEO role at Houston County Medical Center, Crockett, Texas.

Craig Sims, CHC Senior Vice President of Southwest Hospital Operations, said, "We are excited to step in and work together with the Morehouse General staff to identify areas for operational, financial and clinical improvement. As we come on board to assume day-to-day operational responsibility for Morehouse General, our team members across areas such as the revenue cycle and supply chain will be hard at work conducting an operational assessment, followed by an action plan and implementation timeline."

Similar to many other rural hospitals nationwide, Morehouse General Hospital is an independent, non-profit, and community-driven facility. As federal and state governmental mandates continue to drive reimbursement down for both hospitals and physicians, many providers are seeking solutions through collaboration and economies of scale.

CHC Consulting specializes in the management and operation of smaller, community-based hospitals across the country.
