3 hospitals getting government cash infusions

As hospitals face a myriad of financial challenges, some are looking for financial help from state or local governments.

  1. Townsend, Wash.-based Jefferson Healthcare is looking to finance its new campus through a combination of USDA loans and federal and state legislature appropriations.

  2. Bangor-based Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center received $16 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cover the cost of hiring temporary staff.

  3. The Hawaii legislature set aside $18.5 million for the struggling Kealakekua-based Kona Community Hospital.
