Universal Health Services 3Q Profit Soars 53% From 2010

Net income at Universal Health Services, based in King of Prussia, Pa., totaled $85 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 2011, a 53 percent jump from the same period last year, according to a UHS news release.

UHS, which manages 21 acute-care hospitals, also reported $1.85 billion in net revenue for the third quarter of 2011, an increase of nearly 40 percent from the third quarter in 2010.

So far this fiscal year, UHS' net revenue totaled $5.66 billion, up more than 41 percent from the $4 billion in net revenue in the first nine months of 2010. Net income attributable to UHS for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2011 was $302.9 million, up nearly 57 percent from the $193 million in net income recorded in the first nine months of 2010.

UHS also reported same-facility admissions dropped 2 percent in the third quarter of 2011 from the third quarter of 2010.
