Catholic Healthcare West Seeks Buyer for Saint Mary's in Nevada

Catholic Healthcare West is in talks with potential buyers for its Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., according to a Reno Gazette-Journal report.

One potential buyer is Universal Health Services, a for-profit company based in King of Prussia, Pa., that owns three hospitals in northern Nevada and seven in Las Vegas, according to the report.

A spokesperson for Saint Mary's said San Francisco-based CHW has hospitals in three states that were hardest hit by the economic downturn, according to the spokesperson.

CHW acquired the 380-bed Saint Mary's in 2007. According to the report, the hospital lost more than $44.5 million in 2010.
