Survey: 44% of Hospitals Have Bought a Medical Device Integration System

Roughly 44 percent of hospitals have recently invested in a medical device integration solution, according to a survey from healthcare technology research firm CapSite.

The survey asked hospital executives and clinical/IT directors about MDI solutions, which is a system that compiles all digital information from medical devices within a hospital into a patient's electronic medical record. Here are some other findings from the survey.

•    Most hospitals have purchased their MDI solutions last year or this year. Roughly 37 percent of respondents bought their MDI solution in 2010 or earlier.

•    Thirty-one percent of hospitals said their primary MDI solution vendor is Cerner, the highest for any vendor.

•    Most hospital executives said improving clinical outcomes and efficiency improvements were the primary drivers for investing in an MDI solution.
