HHS Dishes $1.9B to Oregon for Medicaid Care Groups

HHS announced it has approved a five-year, $1.9 billion demonstration for Oregon's Medicaid coordinated care organizations.

In March, Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, MD, signed a state reform bill that established the CCOs for Oregon Health Plan members. The Medicaid CCOs will focus on the integration of health services, reduction of administrative overhead and improvement of patient-centered care.

"With unprecedented collaboration between local communities, healthcare providers and our federal partners, Oregon is on the right track to create a system that will both improve care and reduce costs," Gov. Kitzhaber said in the release.

An analysis from the Oregon Health Authority stated the strategy could save the state Medicaid program roughly $3.2 billion over the next five years.
