Kentucky Fines Humana Over Misleading Letters Regarding PPACA

Kentucky's Department of Insurance has fined Humana more than $65,000 for sending beneficiaries misleading letters about their benefits under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a WHAS report.

Sent to about 6,500 Humana beneficiaries, the letters told customers they had 30 days to renew their plans, or be forced to choose a more expensive plan under the PPACA, according to the report.

State officials said the letters were misleading about customers' ability to wait and compare Humana prices with the prices of plans available on Kentucky's insurance exchange, set to open Tuesday, according to the report.
